Scholarships for Women Student Athletes
Described as a natural in the cockpit, Kylie loved nothing more than inspiring others to fly, often saying “If I can do it, you can too.” But to the people who knew her best, she had a tenacity and focus that proved talent alone didn’t tell the whole story.
Four scholarships have been established in Kylie’s memory, each supporting young women at different stages of their aviation journey. While the requirements vary, they all share one thing in common: applicants must be women student-athletes, just like Kylie. Because if she could do it all, so can you.
Private Pilot Certificate
Kylie Murray Memorial Flight Training Scholarship
This scholarship is for young women ages 16–19 who are just getting started and dream of earning their private pilot certificate. It provides a minimum of $10,000 toward primary flight training right in your community.
If you’re active in school, committed to pursuing an aviation-related college degree, and playing at least one sport, you’re exactly who Kylie would be cheering on.
This scholarship is part of the Ray Aviation Scholarship program, run by the Experimental Aircraft Association — a passionate community of pilots, builders, and dreamers who believe in growing our aviation community. Local EAA chapters across the country connect young aviators with mentorship, resources, and the funding to get off the ground.
Instrument Rating
Kylie Murray Memorial Flight Training Scholarship
Recipients of the Kylie Memorial Flight Training Scholarship may also apply for up to $5,000 in instrument flight training funding if they choose to complete their private pilot training at Cub Air Flight in Hartford, Wisconsin. Kylie was the youngest flight instructor at Cub Air Flight, where she earned the nickname Baby Quack while doing what she loved most — instructing in a Piper Cub.
This scholarship is also administered through the Experimental Aircraft Association chapters as part of the organization’s Ray Aviation Scholarship program.
Multi-Engine Rating
Kylie Murray Memorial Women in Aviation International Scholarship
If you hold an instrument rating and you’re ready to level up, this one’s for you. This scholarship, valued at $7,500, is for women who are already well on their way in aviation and ready to take the next step. Offered in partnership with ATP Flight School, it covers multi-engine flight training — either a commercial multi-engine land (C-MEL) or multi-engine instructor (MEI) certification. You’ll choose between a 5-day or 7-day training program at any ATP location across the country.
Administered by Women in Aviation International, this scholarship is offered through their annual awards program as part of the organization’s dedication to providing networking, education, mentoring, and scholarships for women who are passionate about aviation.
Tailwheel Endorsement or Spin Training
Kylie’s Cub Air Flight LLC, Kylie Murray, Steve & Sharon Krog Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is for young women aviators ages 16–24 who want to sharpen their stick-and-rudder skills by earning a tailwheel endorsement or completing spin training. It’s a hands-on way to build confidence and connect with the kind of flying Kylie loved most: low, slow, and in a Piper Cub. If you’re looking to go beyond the basics, this scholarship can help you get there. The award is made possible through the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the state’s aviation history and inspiring the next generation of pilots.
